The federal government has introduced a new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), designed to make dental care more affordable and accessible for Canadians.
This program can cover up to 100% dental care costs for Canadians without dental benefits and with a household income under $90,000 a year.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the governement's Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), you must:
- not have access to any type of dental insurance or coverage
- have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
- be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- have filed your previous years’ income tax return
What Dental Services are Covered?
Services that could be covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) include the following, with some services only becoming available in fall 2024:
- preventive services, including scaling (cleaning), polishing, sealants, and fluoride;
- diagnostic services, including examinations and x-rays;
- restorative services, including fillings;
- endodontic services, including root canal treatments;
- prosthodontic services, including complete and partial removable dentures;
- periodontal services, including deep scaling;
- oral surgery services, including extractions.
How Much is Covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The government's dental care plan will reimburse a percentage of the cost, based on established CDCP fees and your adjusted family net income.
Patients may be required to make a co-payment (that is, pay for a portion of their dental care under the CDCP) based on the following income thresholds:

How Do I Apply For Canadian Dental Care Plan Coverage?
Applications for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is rolling out in the following phases:

People who are eligible to apply starting in May 2024 will be able to do so online and their eligibility will be based on their 2023 tax information.
